Dan has made significant progress since his stroke in June 2003. This video explains what happened and where Dan is today.

The medical community and HMO’s are not up to speed with regard to rehabilitation of stroke victims.  Only recently have therapies once considered ad hoc become accepted.  The HMO’s have to underwrite therapy and the best they can do is 24 therapy sessions per year.

Including home therapy, Dan does more than 15 sessions per week -none of which are paid for by insurance.  The primary focus is speech pathology and Dan goes to Duquesne and the VA Hospital six times per week for that treatment alone.

Money raised underwrites the speech therapy along with Hyperbaric Oxygen, Trans-cranial Micro-current Biofeedback, Auditory Integrative Therapy and others.  We are constantly introducing new therapies and revisiting old ones.

We lose skills if we don’t make an effort to stay active.  So it is with a stroke victim only more so.  Regression is much faster than progress.  Dan constantly pushes himself.  He doesn’t let up and never gives up.
